We have all been touched by the tragedy of the Central Texas Wildfires which began labor day weekend. Some of us have been affected a lot more than others and our hearts go out to every fire victim. All of us here at Gerline's Quilt Shoppe wants to help and as we are in the business of quilts, we have the following plan.
We are taking donations of 12 1/2" quilt blocks. These can be of any color or pattern. These blocks will be sorted and made into quilts. These quilts will be donated to fundraisers benefiting fire victims and area volunteer fire departments and, according to how many quilts we can make with the blocks donated, the rest will be given to families who lost their homes. I know we can't make a quilt for all 1500 + families but we can all do what we can. Our main focus presently is to get the greatest mileage from these quilts and that would be to raise money with them.
Benefit to you--For each 12 1/2" quilt block that you donate, your name will be placed in a drawing and at the end of November 2011 there will be a drawing. The winner of this drawing will receive a gift certificate for $100.00 from our shop. However, we will continue to accept blocks after the end of November. We only ask that:
The blocks are an accurate 12 1/2" sq.
Use quilt shop quality fabrics.
Construct the block as if you were making it for yourself. (neat)
With a post it note (or similar), pin your name and phone # on each block you bring or mail to us so we can enter you for the drawing.

Hopefully we will have LOTS of blocks to make many quilts. Gerline's Quilt Shoppe will be providing the sashing, backs, batting and the quilting of these quilts.
Workdays will be scheduled to help put these tops together. Let us know if you would like to help on these workdays.
